What is Sea glass

What is Sea glass

A few years back whilst on holiday in Italy I was wandering the beach and came across a few pieces of coloured, smoothed glass. I was fascinated and did some research into sea glass and where it comes from.

Sea glass is formed by fragments of glass that fall into the sea and is then tumbled by the waves and sand over many years before coming ashore on beaches. The process of this tumbling can take anywhere between 10 and 100 years and will be randomly washed up on beaches around the world, because of this each piece is truly unique and has in affect been designed by nature and the sea over time.

I loved how each piece was unique and different and you really never knew what you might find a rare colour, different shapes or even some wording or patterned glass. These pieces of glass have been formed by nature and I like to think that as well as collecting beautiful pieces I also doing a little bit of removing glass from the beach and will also try my best to do a bit of a beach clean as I go!

Sea glass is truly a one-of-a-kind gift created by nature and I then make the pieces I find into jewellery and gifts. As well as the items I make I am more than happy to make something custom or special commissioned pieces.

I source the glass from a number of beaches up and down the East coast and I enjoy the excitement of going and seeing what I can find.

After a hunt I bring my finds home, wash and organise before sitting down and creating new pieces of jewellery or gifts.

Thank you for your time!
